World Premiere documentary of the late great Ronnie James Dio coming to SXSW Film Festival in Austin, TX on March 17.

Featuring unreleased archival footage and photos, the documentary will “complete” Dio’s unfinished autobiography Rainbow in the Dark, which he was working on before his untimely death from stomach cancer in 2010. Directed by Don Argott and Demian Fenton, the film will explore his life and career that spanned from the 1950s to the 2000s.

Wendy Dio, Ronnie’s manager and partner, said in a statement, “I am very excited to be working with BMG on Ronnie’s long-awaited documentary.” “Ronnie loved his fans and I hope they will enjoy this trip through Ronnie’s life.”

This career spanning documentary on heavy metal lenged Ronnie James Dio delves deep into his incredible rise from 50’s doo-wop crooner, to his early classic rock days in Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow, to replacing the iconic lead singer Ozzy Osborne in Black Sabbath, to finally cement his legend with DIO.

Ronnie’s biography is completely unique to the tired sex, drugs and rock and roll cliches. The film is about perseverance, dreams and the power to believe in yourself.

The documentary will feature guests Ronnie James Dio, Wendy Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, Bill Ward, Vinny Appice, Lita Ford, Rob Halford, Sebastian Bach, and Eddie Trunk.

“I guess if I’ve left any kind of legacy”, Dio remarked in 1987, “it’s been Heaven and Helland a lot of Rainbow Rising
