Ok so starting off this is just my personal preferences, I’m sure you’ll have a different Top 10.

10. Super Collider (2013)

Listen, I didn’t start this
Believe me, I will finish it – Built for war
You called down the thunder
Too late now there’s no way out – Built for war
Nothing is gonna stop me
Until then better watch your back – Built for war

It is the band’s final album to feature drummer Shawn Drover and guitarist Chris Broderick.

Favourites include Kingmaker and Built for War.

9. Dystopia (2016)

No vital sign of life, they declared it wasn’t there
Coroner never checked, because he didn’t fucking care
Passing off the body, they all believe he died
Starting up the hearse, now for a final drive

It is the first Megadeth album to feature guitarist Kiko Loureiro.

Favourites include The Threat Is Real and the title track.

8. The World Needs a Hero (2001)

Got my wheels in motion and I got a path to beat
I hit the road to I don’t know and look for Tough Shit Street

One-way ticket nowhere there’s no windows on this train
Can’t see where I’m headed but I’m going there again

It was the last of two studio albums to feature drummer Jimmy DeGrasso and the only one to feature Al Pitrelli on lead guitar.

Favourites include Moto Psycho and the title track.

7. Cryptic Writings (1997)

I’ve seen the man use the needle, seen the needle Use the Man
I’ve seen them crawl from the cradle to the gutter on their hands
They fight a war but it’s fatal, it’s so hard to understand
I’ve seen the man use the needle, seen the needle Use the Man

The song “Trust” was nominated for Best Metal Performance at the 1998 Grammy Awards and became the band’s highest charting song on Billboard’s Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks.

Favourites include Trust and Use the Man.

6. Killing Is My Business… and Business Is Good! (1985)

To say my next job is you
Don’t you know that
Killing is my business
And business is good
And business is good
You’d better believe it

The album features the track “Mechanix”, a song that frontman Dave Mustaine would perform with Metallica during his time in the band, and a controversial cover of the 1965 song “These Boots Are Made for Walkin“.

Favourites include Rattlehead and the title track.

5. So Far, So Good… So What! (1988)

In my hour of need
Ha, no, you’re not there
And though I reached out for you
Wouldn’t lend a hand

Through the darkest hour
Your grace did not shine on me
Feels so cold, very cold
No one cares for me

It was the band’s only album recorded with drummer Chuck Behler and guitarist Jeff Young.

Favourites include Mary Jane and In My Darkest Hour.

4. Rust in Peace (1990)

Welcome to our fortress tall
I’ll take some time to show you around
Impossible to break these walls
For, you see, the steel is much too strong
Computer banks to rule the world
Instruments to sight the stars

Possibly I’ve seen too much
Hangar 18, I know too much

It was the first Megadeth album to feature lead guitarist Marty Friedman and drummer Nick Menza.

The album was nominated for Best Metal Performance at the 33rd Grammy Awards.

Favourites include Hangar 18 and Holy Wars… The Punishment Due.

3. Peace Sells… but Who’s Buying? (1986)

What do you mean, “I don’t believe in God”?
I talk to him everyday
What do you mean, “I don’t support your system”?
I go to court when I have to

In 2017, it was ranked 8th on Rolling Stone’s list of “100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time”.

Favourites include Wake Up Dead and the title track.

2. Youthanasia (1994)

I’m doing you a favor
As I’m taking all your money
I guess I should feel sorry
But I don’t even trust me

There’s bad news creeping up
And you feel a sudden chill
“How do you do? My name is Trouble”
I’m coming in for the kill

So many good songs on this album where do I start?

The album was commercially successful, debuting and peaking at number 4 on the Billboard 200.

Favourites include Train of Consequences and I Thought I Knew It All.

1. Countdown to Extinction (1992)

Where do we go from here?
And should we really care?
The end is finally here
God have mercy

Now we’ve rewritten history
The one thing we’ve found out
Sweet taste of vindication
It turns to ashes in your mouth

The album entered the Billboard 200 at number two, the band’s highest position ever. It eventually achieved double platinum status and became their most commercially successful album. The record was nominated for Best Metal Performance at the 1993 Grammy Awards.

Favourites include Symphony of Destruction and Sweating Bullets.
