Why she should be in the Rock Hall :

Dubbed “The First Lady of Rock Guitar” and one of most influential women in rock & roll.

She was the lead guitarist for the all-female rock band the Runaways in the late 1970s, before embarking on a successful glam metal solo career that hit its peak in the late 1980s. Very successful solo career plus being in the Runways is worthy of Rock Hall consideration.

29. Sammy Hagar

Why he should be in the Rock Hall :

Known as the “The Red Rocker”, Sammy was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007 as a member of Van Halen.

Very successful solo career plus being in Van Halen and Montrose clearly helps his chances of getting into the Rock Hall.

Why they should be in the Rock Hall :

Suicidal Tendencies have released fourteen studio albums (four of which are composed of re-recorded or previously released material), two EPs, four split albums, four compilation albums, and two long-form videos.

Formed in 1973 by guitarist Randy Rhoads and bassist Kelly Garni, Quiet Riot became one of the more successful hard rock acts in Los Angeles in the mid-to-late 1970s.

The group’s landmark single “Cum On Feel the Noize” was released on August 27, 1983. A cover of a 1973 song by Slade, the single spent two weeks at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in November 1983 and made history as the first heavy metal song to ever crack the Hot 100.

The success of the single was instrumental in ushering in a new era of unparalleled success for heavy metal music in the 1980s and helped carry the album Metal Health to the top of Billboard album chart, making it the first American heavy metal debut album ever to reach No. 1 in the United States. On November 26, 1983 Quiet Riot became the first heavy metal band to have a top 5 hit and No. 1 album in the same week

The album Metal Health has sold over six million copies in the US.

Osbourne has had a successful solo career, releasing 12 studio albums, the first seven of which received multi-platinum certifications in the US.

He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Black Sabbath and into the UK Music Hall of Fame as a solo artist and as a member of the band.

Osbourne has received several awards for his contributions to the music community. In 1994, he was awarded a Grammy Award for the track “I Don’t Want to Change the World” from Live & Loud forBest Metal Performance of 1994.

Twisted Sister’s legacy includes sales of more than 12 million records (35 gold and platinum awards from 8 countries) and their electrifying stage show has made them one of the most successful rock festival attractions in history.

Despite the disdain that thrash metal musicians and fans in the 1980s had towards glam metal, Twisted Sister bridged the gap and could appeal to both thrash metal and glam metal fans, with thrash metal band Metallica even opening for Twisted Sister in the 1980s, despite Metallica’s disdain for glam metal music at the time. Thrash metal bands Anthrax and Overkill had covered Twisted Sister songs.

The Scorpions are one of the best-selling bands in the history of music, according to various sources, the band’s sales are about 100 million worldwide, of which 10.5 million are certified in the United States. All their editions with issued sales certificates have repeatedly reached gold and platinum status in various countries around the world.

Rolling Stone describes Scorpions as the “heroes of heavy metal”, and MTV called them “Ambassadors of Rock”. They have received prestigious awards such as three World Music Awards, a star on the Hollywood Rock wall, and a presence in the permanent exhibition of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

3. Motörhead

Why they should be in the Rock Hall :

The band are often considered a precursor to the new wave of British heavy metal, which re-energised heavy metal in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Most often classified as heavy metal, Motörhead has been credited with being part of and influencing numerous musical scenes, thrash metal and speed metal especially.

As of 2016, they have sold more than 15 million albums worldwide.

2. Iron Maiden

Why they should be in the Rock Hall :

The band’s discography has grown to 41 albums, including 17 studio albums, 13 live albums, four EPs, and seven compilations. They have also released 47 singles and 20 video albums.

As pioneers of the new wave of British heavy metal movement, Iron Maiden achieved initial success during the early 1980s. After several line-up changes, the band went on to release a series of UK and US platinum and gold albums, including 1980’s debut album, 1981’s Killers, 1982’s The Number of the Beast, 1983’s Piece of Mind, 1984’s Powerslave, 1985’s live release Live After Death, 1986’s Somewhere , 1988’s Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, 1990’s No Prayer for the Dying, and 1992’s Fear of the Dark.

The Number of the Beast is among the most popular heavy metal albums of all time, having sold almost 20 million copies worldwide.

1. Judas Priest

Eligible since 1999

Why they should be in the Rock Hall :

They have sold over 50 million copies of their albums, and are frequently ranked as one of the greatest metal bands of all time.

Judas Priest have influenced a great deal of metal music since the late 1970s. They were ranked by MTV as the second “Greatest Metal Band” of all time (after Black Sabbath).

Many metal bands have named themselves after classic era Judas Priest songs and albums, including Sinner, Exciter, Rage, Running Wild, Steeler and Tyrant.

Judas Priest were nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s class of 2018 and 2020. The third and latest nomination is 2022.
