Unsigned of the Month Interview and Review: At Their Mercy

A Scottish socio-political band fueled on the rage of the state of the world channeled through the inspiration of Slayer, Discharge and Cro-Mags; At Their Mercy are an “intense crossover hardcore/thrash” band but they don’t consider themselves as a Thrash band specifically and they’re definitely not crust either.

The band says: “we’re mostly fast, quite chunky, intense is a word that gets thrown around a lot. We try to be heavy but we’re not foolishly heavy for the sake of it. I think it’s more about quality and it’s also about interesting riffs, interesting musical setup. Playing to the strengths of Dom in particular who is a drummer extraordinaire who really carries all the tracks for us so that makes a big difference to the way we play. Bands wise, our influences are probably clear; Slayer, Cro-Mags and Discharge – those are the 3 cornerstones of what we’re like stylistically. It’s like intense crossover hardcore.”

At Their Mercy released their first album ‘Disavowed‘ in January 2020 and they are currently in the process of recording their second album. Walking the line between hardcore and thrash, the album doesn’t fall on one side more than the other. But either way, if you’re looking for an intense, in your face, pit-churning band who are passionate about making high quality music, these are the guys for you.
