BLACK SABBATH

The band formed in Birmingham in 1968 by guitarist Tony Iommi, Bill Ward, Geezer Butler and Ozzy Osbourne. They are often cited as pioneers of heavy metal music.

Having sold over 70 million albums and being named by MTV as the “Greatest Metal Band of All Time”, this band is deserving to be in the This Day in Metal Hall.

JUDAS PRIEST

Formed in Birmingham in 1969. This band defined the metal sound of the 80’s. Having sold over 50 million albums and produced such hits as “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin” and “Some Heads Are Gonna Roll”.

What can we say about the “Metal Gods” that hasn’t already been said. Still touring after 50 years with energy still in them, this band is deserving to be in the This Day in Metal Hall.

DEEP PURPLE

Formed in London in 1968, this band is considered one of the pioneers of hard rock and heavy metal music. In the 1975 Guinness Book of World Records they were considered “the globe’s loudest band” for a 1972 concert at London’s Rainbow Theatre.

With hits like Smoke on the Water and Highway Star this band is deserving to be in the This Day in Metal Hall.

LED ZEPPELIN

Formed in London in 1968, they are cited as one of the progenitors of hard rock and heavy metal.

They are one of the best-selling music artists of all time; their total record sales are estimated to be between 200 to 300 million units worldwide. They achieved eight consecutive UK number-one albums and six number-one albums on the US Billboard 200.

UFO

Formed in London in 1968, the band has sold over 20 million albums.

UFO are considered one of the greatest classic hard rock acts, and often cited as one of the key influences on the 1980s and 1990s hard rock and heavy metal scenes.

ALICE COOPER BAND

Formed in Phoenix, Arizona, in 1964. The band become famous for the hits “School’s Out” and “I’m Eighteen”.

Long before shock rockers like Marilyn Manson and Slipknot the band was notorious for their elaborate, theatrical shock rock stage shows.

AEROSMITH

Formed in Boston in 1970, they are sometimes referred to as “the Bad Boys from Boston” and “America’s Greatest Rock and Roll Band”.

URIAH HEEP

Formed in in London in 1969, the band have been referred to as pioneers of the hard rock, heavy metal and progressive rock genres. The band has sold over 40 million albums worldwide.
