The time Hulk Hogan almost joined Metallica

Ok so first off, normally we don’t write stories that probably weren’t true but we thought this would be a funny story to explore.

So here’s the story…

Supposedly around the time Metallica were looking for a bass player after Cliff Burton had died, Hogan was offered a chance to be in Metallica from his buddy Lars Ulrich.

Here’s what Hogan had to say….

“I used to be a session musician before I was a wrestler. I played bass guitar. I was big pals with Lars Ulrich and he asked me if I wanted to play bass with Metallica in their early days but it didn’t work out.”

Furthermore when Lars appeared on the Howard Stern show this is what he said…

“You know what?! I’m blessed or cursed, depending on how you look at it, with having more or less a photographic memory for pretty much anything that I’ve been a part of, Lars replied. “That one, when that showed up two or three months ago, I was scratching my head over that one.

Unless he went by… I don’t know Hulk Hogan, I don’t know enough about him… I’m not a huge wrestling [fan]… Unless he went by, like, his Christian name or something, and I don’t know if anybody knows what his Christian name was – Dave Smith or something.

If there was a whole thing that we had with him under a different name, but I certainly have no recollection of doing anything with “Hulk Hogan.

Eventually Hogan goes on to explain…

I would have quit wrestling to play in Metallica like that (snaps fingers). I was hoping for a call from them but never got one.

All the haters were like “You never auditioned for Metallica!”. Of course I didn’t- but tried!!!

YouTuber Justin Whang goes into more detail about this story and the video has over 100,000 views.
