Album Review: 1349 - The Wolf And The King
1349 are a band who have the soul intention and vision to maintain the legacy of black metal and their
Sven Gali released their debut self-titled album in 1992. The song 'Under The Influence' made their mark and the follow up singles 'Tie Dyed Skies' and 'In My Garden' paved the way for the ballad number 6 CanCon song of 1993 that also went Top 10 nationwide; 'Love Don’t Live Here Anymore.'
As the album went Gold, Sven Gali won the MuchMusic Best Metal Video Award in 1993 for 'Under The Influence' and was nominated for two Junos.
After a hiatus the band emerged back in 2018.
Now back again, the band has released a blistering new album Bombs and Battlescars with videos for 'One Gun,' 'Monster' and the recently released 'Coming Home.'
Also on the album is a cover of Triumph's 'Spellbound' which is amazing and the video for it features drummer Gil Moore.
The fun part about following Sven Gali and other bands was the chance every month to go down to Cheapies in Hamilton and pick up the newest edition of M.E.A.T magazine. This was one of the primary sources for getting information about bands and any new concerts coming up.
This is what I love about doing interviews. Talking with my favourite musicians that I grew up with is so much fun and unique.
I remember watching the videos for 'Under The Influence' and 'Tie Dyed Skies' on Much Music. Who can forget the Power Hour!!
I finally got to see the band live at the Rockpile a few years back. What a show they put on. Clearly the band never lost that magic touch and the songs sounded as I expected them. Totally amazing! Dave's voice is still awesome!
