The Black Dahlia Murder - Servitude
Genre: Melodic Death Metal
FFO: At The Gates, Carcass, Allaegeon
Rating: 9/10
This record marks three separate milestones for The Black Dahlia Murder; The return of guitarist Ryan Knight, the band's 10th studio album and the first album to be released since the tragic passing of vocalist and co-founder Trevor Strnad in 2022. Remaining true to their stylistic approach whilst also bringing new personal touches to the band, Servitude not only marks a new era for the band but opens a whole other world of creativity thanks to the twin lead guitar element the band have experimented with on this record. Although this release is bittersweet for obvious reasons, it's great to see (and hear) that The Black Dhalia Murder are back and just as ferocious as ever.

High Parasite - Forever We Burn
Genre: Gothic Death Metal/Electronica/'Death Pop'
FFO: Paradise Lost, Anathema, My Dying Bride, Tiamat
Rating: 8/10
A new band fronted by a formidable and familiar voice, High Parasite is lead by the charismatic and gothically spooky Aaron Stainthorpe of My Dying Bride. This band is a whole other beast of richly melodic riffs, catchy hooks, addictive synths and keys combined with Stainthorpe's trademark gothic broodiness and death growls. Produced by Paradise Lost's Gregor Mackintosh, Forever We Burn is intoxicating and seductive in nature, expertly balancing gothic atmosphere and crushing melodic death metal growls with a sprinkling of dynamic dark synth-pop elements.

Bewitcher - Spell Shock
Genre: Blackened Speed/Thrash Metal
FFO: Devastator, Hellripper, Skeletonwitch
Rating: 7/10
If you find yourself at the crossroads, be prepared for the Devil is always ready to make a deal. Bewitcher did just that and they have been walking the left hand path ever since. Fast-paced intricate riffage, blast beats for days, chugging basslines, screaming solos and rasping, venomous blackened vocals on a foundation of catchy hooks and thrashy goodness. Old school heavy metal meets frantic energy and dark atmosphere with speed, thrash and black metal elements. A gloriously delicious record which is both fun and crushing.

Invernoir - Aimin' For Oblivion
Genre: Gothic Death/Doom Metal
FFO: My Dying Bride, Anathema, Katatonia, The Bleak Picture
Rating: 7/10
Blending classic 90s doom metal with the Scandinavian melodic death metal scene of the same decade with a touch of gothic bleakness, Invernoir presents Aimin' For Oblivion complete with soaring guitars, dense melancholy, mournful harmonies and devastating guitars. The vocal style ranges from gothic brooding to flowing cleans and demonic growls and roars, this record will rip your face off and break your heart all at the same time. A range of emotions will be felt but it can't be denied that Aimin' For Oblivion is dark, addictive and dominating.
