Flotsam and Jetsam - I Am The Weapon
Genre: Thrash/Heavy Metal
FFO: Metal Church, Metallica, Overkill, Death Angel
Rating: 9/10
Quite possibly the most underrated thrash metal band which is unbelievable considering the quality of thrash infused heavy metal they reliably produce with every single record they release. I Am The Weapon marks the band's 15th studio album and they show absolutely no signs of slowing down. Solid riffs, addictive melodies, frantic speed and mid-tempo groove accompanied by dizzying solos and powerful vocals.

Satan - Songs In Crimson
Genre: NWOBHM/Heavy Metal
FFO: Hell, Mercyful Fate, Iron Maiden, Diamond Head
Rating: 7/10
Satan's career can be categorised as "44 years of prolonged mayhem with a 20-year lunch break." But the legendary band are back with Songs In Crimson, proving that their unique take on the NWOBHM style of heavy metal is still very much alive. Technically precise guitarwork, booming rhythmical drums and commanding and recognisable vocals. A solid record for any Satan fan.
Winterfylleth - The Imperious Horizon
Genre: Atmospheric Melodic Black Metal
FFO: Saor, Fen, Wolves In The Throne Room, Agalloch
Rating: 9/10
Winterfylleth inhabit the upper echelons of the atmospheric black metal subgenre and never fail to produce incredible records. The Imperious Horizon is the band's 8th studio album and one of their most overpowering and gorgeously intense to date. Striking a fine balance between dissonant harsh tones and dark, atmospheric elements combined with hauntingly addictive melodies and grandiose energy. Incredibly polished and expertly executed, The Imperious Horizon has bulldozed its way into being one of the most memorable records of the year in a blast of icy glory.
Trelldom - ...By The Shadows...
Genre: Black Metal
FFO: Gorgoroth, Taake, Burzum, Darkthrone, Ihsahn
Rating: 8.5/10
Known for their black metal material, Trelldom have returned with ...By The Shadows... which serves to be one of their most experimental offerings so far. Distorted guitars, highly progressive, time signatures and a densely experimental rhythm section with elements of avant-garde, black and progressive metal. This record is unique and deviates away from the band's previous works.

Stryper have a tried and tested formula and they have stuck with it for When We Were Kings. Flying solos, addictive rhythms, powerful soulful vocals and melodic riffs. This record is a great all-rounder which compliments the band's discography and is full of hard rock and heavy metal vigour.

Crypt Crawler - The Immortal Realm
Genre: Death Metal
FFO: Death (early), Obituary, Morbid Angel,
Rating: 8/10
Blending old school death metal with the modern metal approach, Crypt Crawler have created a dynamic and utterly brutal sound with their blistering third album The Immortal Realm. Face melting riffs, thunderous blast beats, chugging basslines and roaring gutteral growls and screams with a sprinkle of harsh melodies to keep things interesting. There are touches of progressive elements throughout but the main focus is delivering an absolutely devastating assault of death metal to the senses.
