Yesterday, Alice Cooper released his new studio album, the 22nd in his solo career. At the time of the announcement of his new album it was revealed that he would talk about his life as a rockstar, especially his life on the road, and he made it known with the name of the album, Road.
At this point, Alice Cooper has nothing to prove to anyone. He is a legend who, at 75 years old is still fully active and touring the world. Road is an album that follows the same line as Detroit Stories, returning to the classic Alice Cooper Band sound that made him famous in the early 70s.
'I'm Alice' is a self-introduction, a prologue of what the album will be about. Continuing with 'Welcome To The Show,' a song with a sound very similar to Billion Dollar Babies. The third track 'All Over The World' continues along the same path; rock and roll rhythms, catchy and simple but precise. With 'Dead Don't Dance' we could say that we find the first really heavy song of the album, which we hear again with 'White Line Frankenstein' (a song that refers to one of their most famous songs). 'The Big Goodbye' continues with that heavy sound that even reminds us of Alice Cooper'sBrutal Planet.
Personally speaking, I miss that heavier and darker sound that Alice Cooper had been working on since albums like Brutal Planet, Dragontown, The Eyes Of Alice Cooper, Welcome 2 My Nightmare and even on Paranormal, however as an Alice Cooper fan, I'm glad to still hear it in this day and age.
Road is not Alice Cooper's best album. I repeat, Alice Cooper no longer has anything to prove, much less to please anyone. He simply retakes his style and his rock and roll roots to express them and do what he likes the most. Road is not an album that tires or bores you. On the contrary, I think it takes you perfectly through each stage of Alice Cooper throughout his career, a kind of summary of his career, which makes you understand the essence and importance of Alice Cooper in the rock and heavy metal scene.
