Concert Review: Carnifex & Cryptopsy Necromanteum Part II Tour

Concert Review: Carnifex & Cryptopsy Necromanteum Part II Tour

German Deathcore Outfit Mental Cruelty opens the tour at The Glasshouse in Pomona with a punch and sets the whole tone with their feverish energy. For a band that is in the support slot on the Necromanteum Part II US Tour, they came out burly, like they were headlining the show. Vocalist Lukas Nicolai had such a powerful stage presence, endlessly hyping up the crowd. This was my first time ever seeing and hearing them and they honestly blew my mind, making me want more.

Following that, slamming Death Metal band Organectomy kept the night going with their thick grooves and tight beats. New Zealand Front-Man Alex Paul had one of the most unique voices on the tour. This was my first time catching them and definitely not my last time. They brought this insane sound of Slam mixed with Death Metal. Everything about their sound and performance is worth catching live if you get the chance. Each member brought their own creative touch.

Ruthless Deathcore Ensemble Heavy//Hitter was the halfway point of the show. For a name like that I will say they were heavy hitting with their on point energetic performance. I haven't heard much from this band but their high-powered presence definitely made me a fan by the end of their set. Gary Barden brought this commanding attitude to his act, while having the band to back all of it up. If you are into mosh-pitting, expect yourself to be in there during every song.

Canadian Death Metal quartet Cryptopsy never disappoint when performing live. They have bottomless guitar riffs, insane growls, and much more. The stage presence this band brings as a whole is what keeps the audience going. They start their set out strong with their most known song 'Slit Your Guts,' followed by 'Lascivious Undivine.' This set was a great mixture of their catalog as a whole. Every song they played literally made me craving more from them. After this show you will always catch me in the pit at a Cryptopsy show.

Ending the show was Deathcore veterans Carnifex, this is one band that I try to catch every time they tour. Scott's ferocious vocals are always what keeps the crowd hyped and the circle pit going. While Shawn and Fred keep the rhythm tight and punchy, with endless guitar solos from Cory and Neil. Midway through their set they played crowd favorite 'Lie to My Face' and hearing everyone scream "WHAT THE FUCK" hits every time. This setlist was a good mix of older Carnifex and newer material. You get to hear classics 'Slit Wrist Savior,' 'Drown Me In Blood,' and 'Dark Heart Ceremony,' while hearing new tracks like 'Torn in Two' and 'Necromanteum.' For anyone who hasn't seen this band or is barely getting into Deathcore, this band is a must. They have done so much for this sub-genre.
