As reported in the Birmingham News..
Sharon Osbourne said her husband remains a 'regular bloke with a big heart' after he rose to stardom from humble beginnings.
Sharon Osbourne says it's her husband's 'working class mentality' that has fans demanding he receive a knighthood. More than 35,000 people have now signed a petition calling for Birmingham's own Ozzy Osbourne to receive the royal honour.
The Black Sabbath legend has previously spoken of his pride in his Brummie roots after he emerged from Aston to become a celebrated rock star. Readers will no doubt remember his surprise return to the city last year as he performed in the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.
And despite making it 'out of the slums of Birmingham', as Sharon reportedly put it in a recent interview with The Sun, she says the Prince of Darkness remains a 'regular bloke with a big heart' to this day.
The TV personality, 70, shared her thoughts on the ongoing knighthood campaign being led by fans as she explored London on TalkTV's tour bus, speaking to royal fans ahead of the King's Coronation.
“Do you know why I think the fans want the knighthood? Ozzy is a working class hero and he has never tried to be anything else," she told the publication.
“He still has a working class mentality. Ozzy has been working and earning a living for over 60 years. He got his job at 14 and he has worked ever since.
“Ozzy is a regular bloke with a big heart who made it out of the slums of Birmingham and he did it. I am so proud of him and how far he has come.”
Ozzy, 74, will remain at the pair's current home in the US while Sharon is co-presenting a five-hour long TalkTV Coronation Watchalong, covering the momentous event alongside Vanessa Feltz. But the couple are said to be overseeing a move back to the UK after decades living overseas.
According to Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi, the Osbournes will be back living in the country by the time a brand new ballet, based on the group's heavy metal hits, launches at Birmingham's Hippodrome this September. Black Sabbath - The Ballet will be an unusual fusion of ballet and rock - and neither Iommi or Birmingham Royal Ballet director Carlos Acosta have ruled out Ozzy turning up to watch it on stage.
For those who haven't signed, there's a petition to have Ozzy knighted.
