We’re only in to the second week of January and this year has already proven to be an absolute belter when it comes to new metal releases. If it continues on this trajectory, I honestly believe I will have a Top 100 Albums of the Year compared to 2021’s Top 10. US Deathcore titans Fit For An Autopsy‘s 6th studio album ‘Oh What The Future Holds‘ has soared straight in to that list before it even becomes a list. It’s safe to say that this album is an absolute banger. Thank you for listening to my TED Talk and if you haven’t checked it out, please have a read and go and do it. You will not regret it.
We begin with the title track; an eerily ambient keyboard-led opener so often encountered within this genre. But don’t let this fool you as it quickly becomes a full-fledged brutal track with a breakdown so meaty you don’t realise it’s smacked you in the face until it’s too late.
The following track ‘Pandora‘ grabs you by the jugular straight away with Joe Badolato‘s insane deathcore screams compelling you to “open Pandora!” The guitar riffage on this track in particular are very Gothenburg metal scene-esque but still maintain that eerie yet heavy ambience they have honed so well over the years.
Badolato has demonstrated his vast ability with his brutally gutteral tones, deathcore screams and hushed yet clean vocals throughout the record. ‘Far From Heaven’ opens with said clean vocals creating an ambient atmosphere, gradually building to a storm of ominous riffage and monstrous grooves accompanied with thunderous drums and a very short Gojira-esque guitar solo.
The aforementioned clean vocals are sparse throughout the record but seem to reinforce the brutality nonetheless. The opening of ‘Two Towers‘ is very reminiscent of A Perfect Circle‘s Passive before descending back in to the headbanging worthy stomping riffs and brutal vocals. This track, in my opinion, is the most prog/doom inspired on the record.
‘A Higher Level of Hate‘ is my favourite track. Every single track on this record are absolute bangers but if you’ve followed me for even a short while, you’ll know I am an absolute sucker for anything Industrial. This track has incorporated a slight industrial element to the deathcore sound and it really makes this track stand out for me.
‘Oh What The Future Holds’ has stretched the boundaries of Deathcore and transcended to something completely out of this world and surpasses all previous records. It’s dark, emotional, crushing and aggressively packs a punch. Fit For An Autopsy have proven that they are a band who will continue growing from strength to strength. I completely vibed with this record and give it 9/10.
