This Day in Metal: June 22nd 1996 Metallica's Load Debuted at #1 on Billboard's 200 Chart

It was on This Day in Metal, June 22nd 1996 that Metallica's Load album reached #1 on the Billboard 200 Chart.

The album would go on and stay four weeks at #1 and eventually selling over 5 million copies in the US alone.

Kirk says:

"I think we made a really fucking great album, and people aren’t going to walk away from our music even if they think we look like ‘poofs’,” said Kirk bluntly. “At the end of the day, it all begins and ends with the music. I think we’re now much more than a heavy metal band.”
