Interview with Steven Buhl from 200 Stab Wounds

Steven Buhl of 200 Stab Wounds discusses the process of making their 2nd full length Manual Manic Procedures. He explains that during the making of this record they got together a lot more than their other albums. What he tends to do is demo songs out then brings it to the guys to see if any changes need to be made, if so they work on it together. When writing songs names or lyrics he mentions it is all done by Ezra and him.

Most of the time during their writing process they do it separately. During this record they went back to their archived songs and reworked the song 'Release the Stench.' He also mentions how they have had that song since before the first record. 'Parricide' is another song that was archived that they brought back out to put on Manual Manic Procedures.

Steven also discusses his challenges performing live. Talking about how he has to focus in when playing. How sometimes he will focus on guitar then forget he is singing. Sometimes on tour he drinks tea to sooth his voice but other than that doesn't do any warm ups.

When putting the tracks in order they think about it as a rollercoaster and want them to all flow together. They stay cautious of the running order of the songs. He discusses how the first, the middle, and the last songs are the most important.

I tend to often ask bands what's their dream tour line up if they have one. Steven's dream tour line up is OG Slayer as the headliner, OG Sepultura with the Cavalera Brothers, Entombed, then 200 Stab Wounds. He mentions how he would love them to play certain records. Having Slayer play Hell Awaits, Sepultura Beneath the Remains, Entombed Left Hand Pass, and 200 Stab Wounds to play what they usually play.

Last but not least, Steven and I discuss his Mount Rushmore of Death Metal Vocalist. He says this would be David Benson from Obituary, LG from Entombed, Chris Barnes from Six Feet Under, and Corpsegrinder from Cannibal Corpse.

You can catch 200 Stab Wounds headlining on tour this summer with Balmora, Upon Stone, Stabbing, Alluvial, Torture, and Killing Space.
