EP Review: Iron Tomb – Vile Retribution

Sharpen your swords, ready your steeds and rally the heathen horde as we delve in to the evil fantasy world of sorcery and gather at the Iron Tomb.

Hailing from the birthplace of heavy metal (Birmingham, UK if you weren’t already aware), Iron Tomb are set to take the metal scene by storm with their take on old school, 90s Florida scene inspired death metal; brace yourselves.

The opening track ‘Pagan Rule‘ begins with an eerie, atmospherically ethereal chanting vocalisation before launching in to a mid-tempo, chugging riff-fest peppered with thunderous drumming and brutal, guttural vocals. At the halfway point, a soaring solo takes over before descending back in to that mid-tempo, stomping, headbanging-worthy beat. This glides smoothly in to ‘Wretched Dread‘ which is every bit as brutal with it’s thunderously catchy rhythm and demonically guttural vocalisation.

Death Immortal‘ is the single recently released from the EP. Blistering blast-beats, lightning shredding, ferocious vocals and insane solos, this is everything you could want or need from a debut death metal single. The same can be said for the fourth and final title track; bringing the EP full circle by maintaining the aggression and ferocity which started the EP off.

At 4 tracks long spanning 16 minutes and 55 seconds, Iron Tomb have started off strong and have signaled their intent to continue on this trajectory with no sign of slowing down. Packed with a thunderous and blistering rhythm section, screaming, whammy bar infused solos, and lightening fast riffage, this band is definitely one to watch out for and are set to obliterate the already thriving death metal scene.

Vile Retribution will be available across streaming platforms on the 3rd June 2022; check out the first single ‘Death Immortal’ below now!
